"When you are a phenomenal communicator and relationship-builder, success naturally flows to you." This quote from Cassandra Quinn's website is so true. We so often talk about how communication is key in nannying. This week, we're talking through Radical Candor and how this communication style can really help you up your nanny game! Cassandra Quinn joins us and we got so into this conversation that we needed to break it into two episodes!
As nannies, we're working on the same team with the parents to make sure the children in our care are given as much support as possible. Sometimes it can be hard to remember we're all on the same team. So our guest this week, Dr. Sarah B. Nadimpalli, created an awesome solution to this: Same Team Childcare! Sarah and I talk through the many ways nannies and parents can improve communication and honor each other's boundaries to create a harmonious work environment! Doesn't that sound wonderful?
This week we have two special guests, Glenda Propst and Becky Kavanagh, who talk us through ways to more effectively communicate as nannies. Communication is key to a successful nanny career and Glenda and Becky are pros! This is an episode I'll be listening to again and again because it's jam packed with great information!
Cady Leinicke is back to talk about a book that has changed the nanny game for both of us! Non-Violent Communication written by Marshall Rosenberg has helped me communicate differently and has greatly improved my ability to really hear the unmet needs of the children with which I work. It also always a blast to record with Cady! Something we don't mention explicitly in the episode, but it worth pointing out, is that this episode combines well with "Conflict Resolution" which is Episode 11! Stay curious everyone!
If you've never visited Danny Joe's Tree House, you are in for a treat! This week I have the creator and star of a wonderful up and coming children's show, Danny LaBrecque, to discuss methods of communicating to children through play. Often, a child may not have the words to tell us exactly how they are feeling or what is wrong. But through active listening and observing their play, we can discover ways into their inner life and guide them to healthier emotional choices!
Chronicles of Nannya is now one year old! And to celebrate I've invited my nannies from when I was little on to chat! We reminisce about when I was little and also take a look at what child care in the 90s looked like. I also got to see how their influence has stuck with me in ways I didn't even know! From my love of theater to manners to communicating feelings, I owe so much to these wonderful women who helped raise me! Thanks, Margie and Debbie for everything you did to help raise me and everything you continue to do!
