This week we're joined by the fabulous Nanny Thaty to talk all about nannies as educators (both to children and other caregivers) and nannies as advocates. We have come a long way with domestic workers' rights but we have a long way to go! This is such an important conversation and I am excited to share it with you!
Opportunities for science experiments are all around us! Dr. Ryan joins us this week to talk through some fun and easy experiments we can do with our kiddos using things found in the kitchen! I learned so much and have changed my thinking about how to present science concepts to kids. This episode was so fun and in the words of Dr. Ryan, "Kids of all ages can do science and math activities with things that you have in the home! Even cooking and snack time can be used to learn STEM concepts!"
Jennifer Keitt joins us this week to talk about her book #StrongKids. This practical, colorful, fun book will help children, ages 3-6, learn the social and emotional skills involved in understanding their thoughts and feelings. #StrongKids helps children take back their power in order to "turn things around" when their thoughts try to bring them down.
EduCare Connections is a wonderful idea to pool all our resources and create a space of sharing and support. EduCare Connections is, at its core, all about accessible, equitable education and childcare solutions. One of the best ways to help right now is to donate and ask others to as well! We're all in this together! Let's be the helpers!
Whether you know it or not, Maria Montessori's life work has had an impact on your nannying. Tiffany Otwell, of the Montessori Children's House, joins us to discuss the ways we can incorporate Montessori teachings into our days as nannies! She makes the excellent point that, as nannies, we can allow children the time to learn a new skill or try something that may be hard for them over and over. As Maria Montessori said, "Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed."
The holidays often bring more toys than kids know how to handle. But we all know that most of those toys will fall by the wayside pretty quickly. Teaching kids to play games that require no equipment help them learn that they have all the tools they need to have fun already! This week, I am joined once again by the wonderful Sarah George to talk through some great games that only require YOU!
