Garmin Forerunner 405

forerunner405.jpegIn January Garmin announced the Forerunner 405 - a new GPS-enabled wrist unit that will keep track of speed, distance, heart rate and location during exercises such as running. It has more or less the same features as the Forerunner 305, but this time Garmin squeezed the features into a unit that actually looks like a watch.

Runners World posted a video preview. Notice the iPod inspired "touch bezel" user interface. There is also a FAQ about the products on the Garmin blog.

Being an enthusiastic runner (with Copenhagen Marathon on the radar) it all sounds very promising to me, all though I have been a loyal Polar user for years.

Interesting to see Polars response to this challenge. The company introduced GPS for their RS800 last year, but in a less elegant implementation with an external GPS unit which does not do map plotting on Google Earth etc.
