What is or is not working

mcjabber.jpgI went to a kind of poetry-concert with Jørgen Leth and Abdullah S in a place in Copenhagen called Amager Bio. Nice concert anyway, and as a warm-up thing MC Jabber went on stage for half an hour to do some stand-up-relaxed-style-poetry-I-am-not-sure-what and he had a sequence of definitions - among them a definition of technology:

Definition: Technology is something new which doesn't really work.

vcr.jpgInteresting? Making a point? Many new technologies have problems in the beginning. Thats why we prefer not-quite-cutting-edge cell phones and cameras. And if something new comes along, and is not working for years and years, I guess people stop bother using it: Things that really don't work are not here for long. Left is the category of stuff which is partly useful and partly disfunctional - those are the real sinners. And frustrating too - think of old VCRs and their incredibly poor interface.
