Devoted readers might remember the events of last years christmas party at the techincal university. This year, no-one bought any domains (to my knowledge), but at the larger institute party, a nice and telling event caught my attention.
As always, some people are preparing some entertainment, and this year it was a quiz. After some questions about what song are we listening to backwards, my favorite question came up: "What are the values of the university?". A room of about 80 people fell oddly silent - none, not a single person, could remember the high-proclaimed values of the organization. Nice - so much for teambuilding-business BS. Since noone could answer, a hint was given: "It begins with the letters T, E, and N.". Now suggestions came in, but even at that point it took a while before the right answer was given:
Troværdighed (Trustworthyness)
Engagement (Engagement/Commitment/Enthusiasm)
Nytænkning (Innovation/Creativeness)
What was really nice, though, was the contrast to the question posed shortly after: "What is the square root of 65536?". Imidiately, I mean within the first second, several hands went into the air: "Its 256!" And indeed it is ...
