HK Observations 5 of 9: Messages in the Metro

During a trip to Hong Kong, I experienced a couple of inspirational machine culture examples. I have described them in a mini-series of postings and this is one of them.

The metro system in Hong Kong called the MTR is extreemly well functioning. Well done guys - I can only hope that the Danish system one day will be as wide spread, clean and precise. All around the underground maze of tunnels and platforms there are signs warning, informing and instructing the passengers: ”Mind the gap”, ”give way for passengers leaving the train”, and so on. Loudspeakers are urging every body when getting on the the escalators to hold the handrail and warning them to mind the step when getting off. In fact, one day the speaker was broke and a lady was placed with a megaphone and the start of an escalator to instruct the passngers: ”Look after kids and elderly - and for your safety, please hold the handrail”. Wow – who said repetitive work? But the screens are also kind of considerate in their own robotic kind of way, as the message below illustrates.
